For no particular reason, my next few posts will be flashbacks to 2003 and revisiting some seldom-seen photos!
In late February 2003, Brandon Hanson and I packed up and embarked on a 13-state road trip, with a final destination of Tucson, Arizona to visit the Colchado family. Our trip began on a Friday afternoon in Madison, SD. That day we drove through South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma before stopping for the night in Ardmore, OK. The next day was spent driving through western Texas, which took 12 hours. We finally made it to New Mexico at night, and made it all the way to Tucson by midnight.
While in Tucson, we did some touristy things like taking in White Sox and Rockies spring training games, visiting some state parks, and even touring the real-life BioDome. Brandon even went to a class at the University of Arizona with Gloria Colchado and took a mid-term. We went up to Phoenix one day and visited a relative of Brandon’s. We also headed south of the border one night and hit up some bars in Nogales, Mexico. Seeing how we were only 20 and could legally drink in Mexico, that was a big deal!
On the trip home, we decided to hit up as many more states as we could, so we went west to California, then up to Nevada where we hung out in Las Vegas for a few hours, before making it all the way to Salt Lake City where we spent the night at old classmate Marianne Cone’s apartment. The next day we went through Colorado and Wyoming before making it back to a snowy South Dakota.
Here are some highlights from the trip.
