I am nearly complete with Lauren’s birthday present. She requested I build her a yarn swift, so she I guess can wind up yarn much more easily. It would be a chance for me to break out the power tools I got for Christmas. I used various drill bits and spade bits, a jigsaw, a miter box saw, a sander, hammer, nails, wood glue… and after a couple hours of messing around in the garage came in with this:
That top X spins has a bunch of peg holes in it and some dowel rods as the pegs, and it spins freely on that base. It isn’t finished yet, I still got to stain it. But you should have seen Lauren’s little face light up when I walked in the room with that!
I also attempted to meet Lauren’s breakfast-in-bed request. It didn’t get rave reviews, but the dog sure as hell ate up the scraps, and the effort was appreciated.
We had another 80-degree day on Thursday, while things remained frigid in the Midwest. Mom sent me this photo of a sundog appearing in the subzero weather, while on the right is the parking lot of Callaway as I left for the day. What a difference 1,000 miles makes.
Also last week was 90s week in the karaoke league. I sang “Ain’t Goin’ Down Til the Sun Comes Up” by Garth Brooks and “Blue” by Eiffel 65. Mike Madavane and I also teamed up to wow the crowd with Backstreet Boys’ “I Want It That Way”.
