Tonight we welcome the Glanzer family to Austin. I haven’t seen Jordan, Alex, Ann, or Hadley since last Christmas, but saw Mom and Dad in February on their first visit to Texas, and again in August when we visited Minnesota. I took Friday, Monday, and Tuesday off work for the occasion, even though they don’t arrive until later tonight and take off very early Tuesday morning… but I have five days of PTO to burn before the end of 2012, so why not. At this moment I have a 10 pound brisket on the charcoal grill, slow-cooking hopefully to perfection. If all goes as planned it will be ready to eat when everyone arrives… but I have a bad feeling I put it on too hot too early again.

Work has been very busy lately. It is my favorite time of the year at work–new product releases. It is my responsibility to assemble the new product pages for the website(s). Last weekend was our company Christmas party downtown at a steak house. It was another casino night, and at the end of the night my name was called for two prizes—a 3-in-1 hybrid grill that does charcoal, gas, and infrared—and a knife set. Assuming the grill was more valuable, I took that prize even though we already have a brand new grill. In hindsight I made the wrong choice… we could really have used those knives.
