There’s not a lot new about me to write about today. Same old stuff the last couple nights—go to work, get home, watch Scrubs, eat dinner, watch the Twins lose to a terrible team, go to bed. The three-day weekend is upon us, and I have very few plans. Tonight after work I’ll try to get to the State Fair by myself on the bus systems of Minneapolis. Lauren is heading there this afternoon to meet her friend Jaime. Tomorrow we’re going to the Rosok housewarming BBQ, and after that, I have no Sunday or Monday plans. That’s a welcome feeling. My plans to head out on some sort of Labor Day weekend trip fell through, so we’ll chill in the Cities.
Here are a few totally random, unrelated bits of information I thought I’d share.
- Thank you to Alex and Ann for the Twins tickets for my birthday present! Not only did they get me a couple third row seats for the big end-of-the-year White Sox series, but they each included amusing hand-written notes. Ann will be pissed if there’s not big news regarding me and Lauren when she sees us at Carpenter Bash in a month!
- Thank you to the Krogmans, who sent me a belated birthday gift in the mail as well! As I write this, I haven’t even seen what it is yet, but when Lauren wrote me an e-mail this morning informing me that a package came, I told her to open it for me and describe its contents since I wanted to “e-open” a present for the first time ever. I’ve been informed it’s a board game and some original Emmy artwork!
- Goodbye to Chris Walsh, who will leave the Twin Cities this weekend for a better life an hour south of the Twin Cities in the Fairbault area. We’ll miss being able to hang out with Walsh on a regular basis, but it will be far more convenient for him to get to work, and he reports he’ll be back up on the weekends.
- Roommate Sarah finally got a car! After years of relying on public transportation, she’s out on the road on her own. Not only did she get a car, but she now has the newest car of any of the roommates. I believe Lauren’s Probe is a late-90s model, while Nick and I have ’01 cars, I think. Sarah beats us all with an ’04 Ford Focus.
- I’ve been informed that I’m back on schedule to DJ next Saturday in Maple Plain, which is a far northwest suburb, up north of Lake Minnetonka. The bride requested “lots of country,” so I’m clearly the guy for the job.
- I made the observation—just observation, not any implications!—that in the nine months (tomorrow, precisely) since I’ve known Lauren, I can count on my fingers the number of times she’s had to wake up before me. Even when she was employed, she didn’t have to be to work till 9:30! And on the weekends, I naturally am awake first nearly every time. Only when Lauren had a business meeting every other Wednesday morning at 7:30 did she have to be up first. Must be nice! 🙂
- We watched the romantic comedy “Definitely, Maybe” Wednesday night, and I gave it my thumbs up. I also found a new favorite actress, Isla Fisher, who is engaged to Borat actor Sascha Baron Cohan. You may best remember her from her role in “Wedding Crashers.”
- It was Labor Day weekend one year ago that I was caught with an air freshner hanging in my rearview mirror, obstructing my view. I was forced to spend a night in jail.
- The Twins… uh, never mind. They have not played well of late.
Won’t Ann be shocked when the news about us isn’t about an engagement or anything similar, but that we got matching “112 W 26th St” tattoos on our inner thighs!
