Ryan Glanzer’s Play-by-Play Sunday
I don’t have much new to talk about today.  The plan is to just sit around watching football.  The Chargers-Colts game unfortunately is not on TV, but I will be able to follow along with it online.  Instead I’ll be watching the Vikings-Steelers game.  Nick Sandbulte should be over to watch as well, or so he told me yesterday.  Also, apologies to Jake Drotzman for not meeting him at the Cocktail last night.  I watched Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, Coming to America, and Major League with Amanda in succession instead.

11:58am – Almost time for kickoff.  No sign of Nick yet, which is surprising.  To review, the Chargers are my favorite team, and the Vikings second, but I will be cheering for both today because the Chargers need to win to keep their playoff hopes alive, and the Vikings need to beat the Steelers because that’s who the Chargers are chasing in the standings.  And as a sidenote, the Colts are 13-0 and trying to go undefeated.  I want the Chargers to end their streak.

12:30pm – Chargers strike first with a Keenan McCardell touchdown!  7-0 Chargers.  I’m fairly optimistic at this point that the Chargers can pull off the upset.

12:42pm – I guess Nick isn’t coming after all.  Oh well.  The Chargers now lead 10-0 at the end of the first quarter against the undefeated Colts.

1:15pm – It’s nearly halftime and the Chargers now lead 13-0.  I’m getting hungry.  I’m in a good mood with the big lead, but these are the Chargers, who have blown bigger leads.

1:48pm – I put some rice on the stove as the second half gets underway.  Haven’t paid much attention to the Vikings game.  I’m too glued to my computer screen.

1:58pm – Ow! Rice is hot. I’ll wash it down with this single bottle of Sublime left in the fridge.  Chargers now lead 16-0.  Vikings had a field goal blocked.  This is nice, isn’t it?  Just sitting under a blanket doing nothing.  Maybe I won’t look for a job after all.

2:11pm – That 16-0 lead for the Chargers was never comfortable enough for me.  The Colts just kicked a field goal, then intercepted Drew Brees and are looking to score again.  As usual, the Chargers are struggling to hold on to a big lead.

2:12pm – Yep, just as I suspected.  The Colts ran it in for the touchdown as I typed the previous sentence and now it’s 16-10 Chargers.  I am a very pessimistic Twins/Chargers fan, so I will predict the final score to be 24-23, Colts.

2:23pm – Wow, that was even faster than I thought.  The Colts just recovered a Drew Brees fumble at the 4 yard line and scored a touchdown.  17-16 Colts.  Ryan’s getting angry.  In a matter of twenty minutes–and five minutes off the game clock–the Chargers have blown a 16-0 lead.  Why am I not surprised?  Maybe it’s a good thing Nick’s not here.  With the Vikings losing, he’d surely be throwing a tantrum, adding to the household rage.

2:39pm – I really just needed one of the two games to go my way: either the Vikings or Chargers needed to win.  Right now it looks like neither will happen.  But good news is the Colts have to punt, so the Chargers still have time, trailing by 1 with ten minutes left.

2:43pm – Wherever Nick is, he is undoubtedly screaming profanities as the Vikings just got tackled in the end zone for a safety.  18-3 Steelers.

2:49pm – Field goal for Chargers and a 19-17 lead.

2:53pm – So, the Chargers kick the field goal, kickoff to the Colts, and recover a fumble in the red zone.  But just when it looked like they had a chance to add onto their lead, Brees throws his second interception.  Turnovers are killing the Chargers!

2:58pm – Jung has now joined me.  It now appears the Vikings game is all but over.  The Colts are driving and will probably retake the lead.  I am also chatting with Jake now.  He spent last night watching people bowl while drinking “much-needed water.”

3:04pm – The games are winding down, and the guys on CBS are pointing out the fact that if the Chargers blow their lead, they will tie the all-time record with five blown fourth quarter leads this season.

3:07pm – I don’t want to get too excited just yet, but the Chargers just scored on an 83-yard touchdown run by Michael Turner.  My guess is something bad will happen, like a penalty, to overturn the score.  Nope, wait!  The extra point is good, that means the play stands!

3:14pm – An interception for the Chargers means the game is probably over and the Chargers will end the Colts’ quest for perfection.  But there is still time left, so I won’t get ahead of myself.  Until there are zeroes on the clock, the Colts still have a chance.

3:21pm – Okay, now I can breathe a sigh of relief.  The game is over and the Chargers won 26-17.  Are you bored out of your mind reading this yet?

Well I will post this log and continue to sit.
