I always complain about having to give up half of my weekend to DJ wedding dances, but when I’m actually there doing it, it doesn’t seem that bad.  In fact, yesterday’s debut at the Profile Event Center was borderline fun.

First of all, let me say how much better this DJ job is than the old job.

1. I get to go to the same place every time, just a 15-minute drive, as opposed to a different location every weekend, sometimes as far away as 100 miles.

2. Profile has all the equipment and it is, of course, all set up and ready to go.  I don’t have to go pick up the equipment, unload it, set it up, make sure it works, take it down, load it back up, and take it back to someone’s garage.

3. I’m not doing it alone.  There were at times four people assisting me last night.

4. They pay much, much better, and pay me immediately after the show.

Last night’s couple asked me to do their grand march introductions, fully utilizing Profile’s impressive lighting system.  We cranked up the fog, and Profile event managers Heather and Patrick, and full-time sound engineer Ron ran a wild light display while I cranked up the “Jock Jams” song and did a great announcer voice as I introduced the wedding party.  The crowd went absolutely wild as the wedding party entered and did some fun dances and stuff.  By far the best wedding entrance I’ve ever been a part of.

I had to be there for two hours at 8am for rehearsal, and then came back at 3pm for the actual wedding ceremony and didn’t get home until 1, but as I said, it was an excellent pay day, very helpful for that wedding fund.

Today we woke up and went to the Longfellow Grill for breakfast to try something new.  I am becoming a big fan of these eggs benedict/hash meals.  Afterwards, we stopped at Target for a few basics, but when we got home we realized we’d left a bag at the store, so I wasted 40 minutes going back to the store to get it.

This afternoon it’s a big Poulter family gathering as the family celebrates three birthdays and Father’s Day.  I had originally asked for a vacation day tomorrow, and Jason was going to come over this evening and hang out, but I am desperately needed at the office Monday as we put the final touches on this new business which is scheduled to launch this week.  So, I may instead take Thursday off and go to the Twins/Pirates day game.  One way or another, I think I am in need of a random vacation day.  It will be a last-minute decision, I think.
