Log from AmericInn
I’m writing today’s Daily Log from the AmericInn of Madison where I am working from 3-11. I think I’ll take a break from the “Best of DSU” stories. I am working on a new Daily Log Archive, where it will be easier to find certain logs for personal reference. Okay, that is mostly for my own reference. But use it if you want.

Emerson Comes Early
My sister Jordan and her husband Calvin have welcomed the newest addition to the young Krogman family. On November 8, Jordan rushed to the hospital and gave birth to her second girl, which was named Emerson Hayes. I questioned the name at first, but soon realized Emerson-Hayes was the name of a company I had applied at in California. The name comes from Teri Hatcher’s daughter of the same name, which Jordan apparently was a big fan of. The baby was supposed to be born the 11th, but things began happening Monday night. Mom went down to Vermillion to be there with Jordan, and informed me of the news early Tuesday morning. I decided to take off after my exit exam Thursday and check things out for myself. I arrived at the hospital and met Emerson. After a while, I headed back to the Krogmans’ apartment and played with Peyton for a couple hours. After Dad and Alex arrived later that night, I headed out on the town to see old friends Kathy and Jesse Van Heukelom. We had a nice chat at a bar for a couple hours. Once I got home, I realized I still had to submit an assignment on WebCT. On their slow dial-up internet, it took over an hour to do a 30-second task. I slept on the couch and headed home Friday afternoon for work.

FOX Axes “Arrested” Again
Upon my return to the house Friday afternoon, the first thing I heard was roommate Justin Jung undisclosing the bad news that I didn’t want to hear: “Arrested Development” is officially cancelled. The show was cut from 22 episodes to 18 late last season, and now this year FOX halted production at 13 episodes. It is such a shame for the funniest show ever to be cancelled. The ratings weren’t great, but DVD sales were strong. I can only hope that HBO or some other network picks up the Golden Globe-winning comedy.

Facebook Craze
I was one of the naysayers. I didn’t want to give in and become a Facebook junky like so many college students across the country. But, after realizing just how ridiculously many of my friends from college and Valleyfair were using it, I decided to throw in the towel and join. I must admit, it is extremely entertaining for several reasons. First of all, it’s just cool to make a long list of all your friends. Secondly, it’s nice to see all the details about them that you don’t dare ask normally. Thirdly, without it, I would be keeping in contact much less with a lot of people. Those hard-to-find friends from years past? They’re pretty much all using Facebook. It’s almost hard not to find people using it. There are a few friends who refuse to join. Jesse and Kathy told me they are very anti-Facebook just because everyone else is doing it. The guy who created that thing is gonna be smoking cigars lit by $50 bills for a while.

Music Craze
Now that I’m back on the Windows platform (temporarily, anyway), I have access to better song-downloading features. I’ve been scanning my brain trying to think of anything I can to download. For those of you who like to read lists, you’ll love this list of the artists whose songs I have downloaded this month: The Bangles, James Taylor, Neil Diamond, Celine Dion, Garth Brooks, Ricky Gervais, Take That, Atomic Kitten, Marvin Gaye, Yazoo, Eiffel 65, David Gray, Spill Canvas, Earth Wind & Fire, Wilson Phillips, Joe Nichols, Rufus Wainwright, Pink, Blue October, Starland Vocal Band, Fastball, Alanis Morisette, Sister Hazel, Janet Jackson, Bo Bice, Third Eye Blind, All Saints, Norah Jones, Ace of Base, Bon Jovi, Gavin DeGraw, Three Days Grace, Will Ferrell, Boston, Weezer, Bread, Travis Tritt, Butthole Surfers, Green Day, Les Claypool, Fallout Boy, Collective Soul, Toby Keith, Jewel, and Nickelback. Is that a random list or what? By reading this, you have waived your rights to prosecute me for any copyright infringements. The coolest song I’ve downloaded? “Free Love on the Free Love Freeway,” straight off BBC’s version of “The Office” when David Brent decides to play guitar during the middle of a training session.

Quote of the Day
Jeff Landhuis: I missed the corner and wrapped my car around a pole.
Brandon Nase: Nice!

That’s all for today!
