Road Trip Still Happening
Plans for our big summer road trip back to the Midwest have changed a bit, due to Lauren not receiving her new batch of PTO until later in August. So for those of you expecting to see us in Minneapolis around August 3, we had no choice but to move it back a week so that Lauren can be paid to miss work! More details should be finalized soon, but for now we are just planning on being in town by the 11th for a wedding, and that’s about all we know. I want to get out to Target Field some night also. On the drive back, we are thinking about heading to South Dakota for a day and letting Baxter play with uncle/cousin Buster. We were all very sad to hear that Glanzer family pooch Rufus passed away yesterday though. He was just 2.

Volleyball Loss
Our team lost our first social beginner beer league volleyball game at Weirdo’s Thursday night to Balls Out, 25-15 and 25-20. Even though we played decent as a team and were in both games, it still felt to me like this other team should maybe have been in a better division. The women players on the other team were not out there to screw around, and had some choice words for Ryan B when he attacked a serve, even though the ref didn’t call anything. Oh well, the point of the league is merely for fun.

Work
There were a few people who saw Callaway in the news last week and check in to see if I still had a job. The company laid off 12% of its workforce, but everyone in our Austin office was safe. I’ve been busy with creating mass e-mails, optimizing our data feeds, and administering some AB tests on the site to see if certain things are working better than others. I’ve also been quite busy with the Microboards contract stuff lately.

Weather Much Nicer This Year
Last year at this time, I was in the midst of the great Texas heat wave and drought that saw us reach temps of at least 100 degrees over 90 times, and virtually no rain to speak of. This past week, we were topping out in the low 90s and had plenty of rainy days. I jogged through the nearby hiking trail with Baxter and some rapids were so deep I had to carry him through. Nice to see the grass alive again.

Living Situation
Our apartment lease is up at the end of September, and we need to give 60 days notice if we plan to renew or vacate. So, we’ve been savings our pennies and looking at some houses in the neighborhood. The next time you come visit, we may finally be home-owners, two years after abandoning our Minneapolis house search.

Thirty
I turn 30 in just over a month, and friend Ryan B turns 30 in two weeks. There has been lots of talk of a joint party of some sort, and Ryan B is set on us getting birthday tattoos. With the vacation and house talk, I have barely given the birthday any thought. But it just wouldn’t be like me to not do something elaborate and invite dozens of people. I’ll keep everyone posted on plans and where birthday cards can be mailed.

Here’s our volleyball team, Dr. Funke’s 100% Natural Good-Time Family Band Solution, minus me, after our loss. The name is of course an Arrested Development reference.
