Tuesday after work, the four roommates spent the night together preparing for the cruel winter ahead. It’s barely fall and already temps are topping out in the 40s. Our house is insanely drafty. One little breeze and you can feel it inside. And with gas costs probably on the rise this winter, we actually got ahead of the game and lined all our windows with plastic.
Sarah, Nick, and I taped the window panes, stretched the plastic, and blow-dried it tight while Lauren prepared a full chicken, mashed potatoes, and vegetables in the kitchen. Some of my best handiwork to date, I might add, and some of Lauren’s finest cooking!
A funny thing happened while doing the windows. Sarah had gone out and bought several kits that contained plastic and two-sided tape. After one box was finished, Sarah sent Nick to the store to go buy more tape. He came back a half-hour later from KMart with a bunch of Scotch tape, which didn’t really cut it. So, back Nick went in search of some industrial tape. About a half hour into his second trip, Sarah realized her kits did indeed include two-sided tape. Nick returned home with bags full of tape, only to see us busy taping up the windows with the tape Sarah already had. He was not amused.
Sarah also bought Roscoe a little orange autumn sweater with an owl on it. It’s orange, brown, and white and covers up the front half of his body. I’m already a sucker for giving into Roscoe when he’s begging for food, but now with that sweater on I’ll give him anything he wants. Something about an animal forced into wearing clothes is very humorous to me. I will have to post a picture when I get the chance.
