In a Matter of Days, It’s a Very New Ryan Glanzer
On December 16, I was finishing up my last day of college at DSU, my last day of work at AmericInn, and was residing at 915 N West Ave in Madison with Jon Mueller, Phil Huddleston, and Justin Jung. A mere eight days later, I am done with DSU, about to begin work at Microboards Technology, and about to move into an apartment in Bloomington, MN with Nick Sandbulte. It was a wild couple days in the Twin Cities this week when Nick and I made the drive up to find an apartment. The day before we left, I decided to call back
to a job I had applied for a few days earlier. I had applied for many jobs, but had never once called back like they say you should. But this particular job really stood out to me, and I decided to check back. Good thing I did, because they scheduled an interview with me on Wednesday afternoon. I passed the first test with the temp agency, and a second interview was set up at the company headquarters in Chanhassen on Thursday afternoon. I interviewed for the position listed as Administrative Assistant with the president/founder of the company and the marketing manager, and again must have said something right, because the temp agency called me back shortly after and told me I was needed for a third interview Friday morning. But before we get to that, there’s a lot else you should know about this trip. Nick and I toured several apartments before deciding on Village Park Apartments. Nick foolishly forgot his wallet behind, and in order to tour this apartment, we needed to show our IDs. So Nick had to stay behind while I checked the place out. Let me tell you, we found a winner. The apartment itself is nice, but the real find was that this place has a racquetball court, a volleyball court, a golf room, a billiards room, two pools, a hot tub, and more great amenities. I decided for the two of us that this was the place we would live, and we signed the papers. Liz Burke, who we stayed with while in the Cities, is our new neighbor at just one block away, and the Mall of America and Light Rail are within walking distance. Now here comes the really weird part. Nick discovered that his best friend from high school, who he hasn’t seen since he graduated, is the neighbor of Liz Burke. This ended up being very important. The two spent Thursday reminiscing and such, and we had been planning on leaving later that day. But, since I was being asked back for a third interview, I needed to stay an extra day. Nick needed to be back home Thursday though. After some brainstorming, Nick’s friend Patrick S. told Nick he could drive his extra car home, and I would stay overnight and take Nick’s car home the next day. Everything worked out beautifully. That night, I slept at Liz’s apartment alone while Liz went to her boyfriend Curt’s house. I woke up Friday morning and drove to Chanhassen where I interviewed again with Microboards, this time in front of five high-level employers. The interview went very well, and they told me they’d be in contact with me later in the week. When I arrived back in Madison Friday, I got the message that they had decided to hire me, and I begin work January 3. That means I will have to pack up and move to the Cities in the next week or so. As for the duties at the job, I was told I will be in charge of coordinating trade shows the company attends, as well as some web and graphic projects. This is a $100 million company that introduced the CD burner to the US over a decade ago, and they now produce lots of products along those lines, as seen above. There will be a lot going on and a lot of deadlines, so I will be under a little pressure. The drive is about twelve miles, and I will work from 8-5 five days a week, so I figure I’ll need to be up by 6:30 during the week. Anyway, I found the job I was looking for, which is great to have taken care of. I found the apartment we were looking for, and that is great to be done with. It was quite the trip. Oh, and I also went to a Timberwolves/Hornets game while in town. Good time.
Well that is all for Christmas Eve.
