The Plant Is Back
No, I’m not referring to that stupid eggplant growing in my window sill. Jason LaPlant has been in town since Tuesday, so I’ve been trying to hang out with him as much as possible while keeping up with my day-to-day life here. Last night we hit up Fat Daddy’s to do some karaoke. We started the night out with “Pepper” by the Butthole Surfers. Next we did a little “Photograph” by Weezer, and followed that up with Wilson Phillips’ “Hold On for One More Day.” In that song, we were joined by the two girls who normally do that 80’s classic. I thought it would be funny to steal their big song they always do. Katie also joined us in that number. After Katie and I did our usual “Paradise by the Dashboard Light,” Jason and I tried “Leaving Town” by Dexter Freebish. Jason didn’t really know the song too well. I thought everyone knew it! Besides our karaoke, we joined Jake and Craig and hit up Jersey’s for 25-cent wings on Wednesday night. Jason and I each ordered 32. Jake ordered two. I was able to eat all of them, and they were delicious. Otherwise just a lot of hanging out at the Drotzman pad, tipping back a few toddies.
Campus Tour
I’m not working for Enrollment Services anymore, but they still asked me if I’d give a tour of campus Friday morning since there were 72 students with their parents at DSU for Discover DSU Day. I agreed, but was later told the tour was at 10:10, and I have a class from 10-11. I e-mailed my professor, Dan Mortenson, and said I had decided to do the tour and wouldn’t be able to make it to class. I guess that didn’t go over very well, and he and the people of Enrollment Services exchanged words. Regardless, I gave a tour to a group of a dozen or so people. None of them could have cared less. There was a group of girls that were “too cool” for the tour and spent the whole time making fun of me. My jokes didn’t seem to work well on this group. As we passed a dumpster, I stopped and made a note of it. “Here on campus, you’ll see a lot of these big green dumpsters. Uhh, just try to ignore them, unless you want to put trash in them. Go ahead and take a look inside. Trash can be placed in it…” I said. No one thought I was being funny and someone even took the time to look inside the dumpster. Idiots. I did get two free DSU t-shirts for doing the tour though.
Long Weekend Ahead
I just finished my tour, and now I’m done for the day. Nothing to do from here on out. Tomorrow and Sunday are the same, and Monday I only have one class. I have a full day Tuesday, but Wednesday I don’t have class and then it’s Thanksgiving. So in the next ten days, I only really have one day with anything at all to do. Wow. Things are gonna get awful boring. I plan on playing basketball with the gang up at the CC as much as possible. Last Sunday I went down and played with Waldo, Brent Adams, Nick Hansen, and that crew. I proved I, like everyone else on the court, was in poor physical shape.
New Pet Peeves Added to List
Perhaps my #1 pet peeve is now cell phones never working right. My phone is nice and all, but I get crap for reception in this town. There’s one spot in the house where I can get clear reception if it’s not windy outside. Otherwise my calls are choppy and almost always lost halfway through. I was working on the newspaper in my office the other day on campus and needed to make a call. I had no service in the TC, so I walked outside a little. Still nothing. I walked all the way across the street near Heston Hall. Nothing. I walked all the way to Emry Hall, the girls’ dorm. Nothing. Finally I was able to get some analog service, but my battery died. I don’t have this problem in most places, mainly just Madison.
