Maybe we all just outgrew the silliness of Carpenter Bash. Or maybe I just picked a really bad weekend to have it! Either way, I’m trying to figure out what to do as the weekend quickly approaches and for the first time, Carpenter Bash is in limbo. Our usual crew of 12 people has dwindled to just a handful after most participants had other plans come up.
Liz has a bachelorette party. Patrick likely has to work this weekend. Feeney’s dad is coming to visit. Brad has a wedding. Steve is moving. Travis plays a gig. Colin is saving his pennies. Kayla and Vincent were non-responsive. Walsh and Sarah are semi-committed to DSU homecoming. Jeff and Cooney have work. And Lauren has two family birthdays Saturday. That really just leaves me, Jason, and Nick as the last three standing with no prior obligations. Well, I’m pretty much part of the Poulter family now too, so Lauren’s family birthdays affect me as well. Even Alex said all but two of his North Dakota friends cancelled, leaving Carpenter Bash V all but dead. Throw in the fact that the Twins are fighting for a playoff spot this weekend, and even I’m hesitant to leave town!
The easy solution is to reschedule… but not so fast! I have committed to DJing two more times in October. The following weekend after that is Hudson’s baptism and the farm will not be available for rowdy guests. And late October is also harvest time on the farm… but then again my friends would probably love to help combine. So the best time to reschedule is the weekend of October 25.
The main reasons to try and keep on schedule for this weekend are A) I want to collect my birthday presents which I’ve already waited an extra month for, B) I haven’t been home to see the fam’ in about three months, and C) Jason used his final vacation days in anticipation of the Bash. So, the debate continues! We will have an answer by the end of the day for sure.
