Yesterday after Lauren and I checked out of the Depot hotel, we returned to the house and I had three hours to relax before heading to St. Paul to DJ as wedding dance.  I had absolutely no interest in going to that dance.  It was a perfect day to hang out on the couch and watch TV with the rain pouring outside.  It took everything I had to get up and leave, and once I got to the Wabasha Street Caves I was very miserable.

It sounds kinda cool to have a wedding reception in an actual cave, but it was less cool than I imagined.  It was just like any other reception hall except it was darker and mustier, and the staff there was mostly grouchy.  Someone on staff refused to let me park in the parking lot, saying it was for guests only.  I ignored him, but maybe should have taken his advice as the rain and wind caused a power line to go down in the lot.

The bride was from the area and the groom was from Mexico, so I played about half Spanish Latino music that I didn’t know.  Dinner was good and the couple was nice, but the dance was a pretty big bust.  I got out with a small tip at midnight and raced home.  When you consider I made $150 yesterday and maybe would have spent $20 or so doing something at home, it is a nice $170 swing.  But coming off the big engagement excitement of Friday and wanting to stay home with Lauren, I don’t think it was worth it!

Lots of congratulations have come pouring in after the Facebook announcement, as one might expect.  Lauren is really overwhelmed trying to comprehend that she’s now engaged at the age of 24.  I, on the other hand, am six years behind both siblings so it doesn’t seem unusual to me at all.  I don’t feel any different at all.  It will be interesting over the next few months to see what decisions are made as to when and where future wedding events could be held.  I would guess next year this time, but you never know!

FYI, the ring I purchased is 1.17k diamond and an 18k gold band.  I bought it about three weeks ago, and considering the very large sum of money it cost, I began carrying it with me at all times a few days ago so I wouldn’t lose it.  I did actually lose it once, though, right before I gave it to Lauren.  I knew it was in my backpack somewhere, but I could not find it.  I tore through that bag and finally found it buried under some socks.

Today I’m just gonna hang out and watch the Twins and Vikings games, and maybe in the afternoon we will head out to Belle Plaine to a BBQ at Josh Kleve’s house.  Then it’s back to work Monday.  No plans for the week until next weekend when I DJ a dance in Oak Grove.
