Monday night was the EP softball league, and we played our first doubleheader of the year.  I have not been very good about being at the games recently, missing the last three weeks.  Even though I’m not running that team, those guys (Patrick, Steve, Jim, Andrew, Vincent, Kayla) are still my good friends and I made sure to show up yesterday!  One thing that has come as a bit of a surprise in this league is how bad we are.  I believe the team is now 0-11 after last night’s losses, though this is the Gold League, reserved for only the best of the best teams, but it was the only spot left when Vincent signed up.

In the first game, it was sweltering hot.  Muggy, balmy, 93 degrees.  I pitched well but fielded poorly, making two ugly throwing errors to Kayla at first.  Not that those errors cost us the game, exactly.  Despite my 2-for-2 day at the plate with half the team’s RBIs, we lost 15-2.  I was soaked to the bone from sweat and needed all the time I could get in between games to rest.

In the second game, the rains came.  It rained on and off, sometimes very heavily, throughout the game.  The team was shocked when we ended the first inning leading 3-1.  But that quickly came to a halt in a 10-4 loss.  I played first base and fielded only one ball the whole game, while going 1-for-3 at the plate with an RBI double.

Tonight it’s the Minneapolis league, where our Captain Safety Planet team tries to win for the third week in a row when we take on the Short Bus All-Stars.  We lost to them the first time we played on May 27, but we are a much-improved team since then.  The team will be without star second baseman Jaime Berglund-Huseby the rest of the season as she has a new job that keeps her long hours, so if you’re a female, come on out and join us tonight!
