Sunday was a peaceful day of resting and relaxing. As one of my thank-yous to Lauren for tagging along on my 14-hour DJ adventure to Byron, we went out for breakfast at Bad Waitress in the morning. Bad Waitress is just over a block down the street and features hippie waitresses who don’t come to take your order and many look like they crawled out of bed and went directly to work. Instead, you write down what you want, take it to the register, and they ring it up there and bring you your food later. As with other trendy Uptown diners, it offers many coffee drinks and many organic options. Lauren and I played Hangman while waiting for food to come, and I stupified her with phrases like “Kitty cats like you” and “Don’t behead me, bro!”

We watched the Twins game against Cleveland in the afternoon. The Twins welcomed young pitching phenom Francisco Liriano back, as he threw six shutout innings to propel the Twins into first place in the AL Central, a half-game ahead of the White Sox who lost in Kansas City. Again, if you look back at the RG.com preseason predictions, of the forty or so people who participated, only Jason thought the Twins would win the division. Most said Detroit, with an occasional Cleveland thrown in. The Twins were not expected to be competitive having lost Hunter, Santana, etc. but have instead improved dramatically from 2007’s disappointment. Another tidbit I found very amusing was Saturday when the Twins 2008 team photo was taken. Randy Ruiz, with all of three at-bats this season, will be a part of the team photo that everyone will look back on for years, but recently-released ten-game winner Livan Hernandez will not.

Later that evening, after cooking up some chicken fajitas and giving the Glanzers a call to see what was happening, I walked over to the theater to meet Jason for “American Teen,” a documentary that followed five Indiana high schoolers through senior year. There was Jake, the band geek; Megan, the homecoming queen; Colin, the basketball star; Mitch, another basketball player; and Hannah, the artsy guitar-playing girl who pretty much stole the show in my opinion. As I said last week, I find this genre/theme very interesting for movies and TV shows, and this movie lived up to the critical acclaim! I doubt it will be appearing at most theaters, but if it does, it’s definitely worth seeing.
